Weddings weddings weddings

Just arrived from the wedding of one of my childhood friends, Agatha, who is the younger sister of my bestfriend PJ. Watching her get married is so surreal. It feels as if I'm in a dream sequence and I need to slap myself silly so I'll wake up. In the middle of this so-called dream, my two cellphones kept on ringing. Work is calling. This is definitely not a dream. It is a nightmare! Anyway, before I digress...

I have attended 3 weddings for this year. Portia's, Therese's and Agatha's. In every wedding reception, it would be a miracle if the topic of who will get married next will not be brought up. Most of the time, I initiate that type of conversation. Then I end up getting irritated when that same question is thrown at me.

Maybe I am not just the marrying type.

One of my favorite Sex and the City episodes 'Change of a Dress' wherein Carrie and Miranda went into this awful bridal shop and tried on bride gowns for fun. Then Carrie ended up tearing the gown due to allergies.

In this episode, the question was asked in Carrie's column:

"Do we really want these things, or are we just programmed to think we do?"

Whenever I am asked when I plan to get married, my usual answer is, "Not in the near future." Of course some people are just born nosy (like me) and want to probe deeper on the reason on why I do not want to get married yet. I just tell them, "I'm not yet ready." Then this guy friend of mine told me, "Maan, if you do not want to get married today, you will not want to get married in any day." and I think that is a load of crap which he got from Aidan of Sex and the City.

CARRIE: I am yours. There is no one else. I love you. But I can't marry you to make you trust me. Aidan. Aidan. Look at me before we make a huge mistake.
AIDAN: If you don't want to marry me right now, you'll never want to marry me.
CARRIE: That's not true.
AIDAN: I think it is.

Back to Agatha's wedding, it was really really beautiful. It made me want to cry. Agatha, the little girl I used to play patintero, taguan, and tumbang preso with is now a mother and a wife. She's 2 years younger than me but when I saw her walk down the aisle with rose petals being showered upon her and her hubby, I felt like she became older and more mature. Silently I was thinking how this little girl knew that this is the guy she wants to stay with for the rest of her life? For such a young age, how can she make such a big decision which can forever alter her life? I guess she was just ready. She is willing to take the risk. She is willing to make the sacrifices. She has let go of her single life and her wild, carefree days.

I, on the other hand, am just beginning to enjoy life.

Muskutings - 1 @ Banana Leaf

Due to insistent public demand (public demand = Karen), this blog entry will be mostly about the Muskutings.

The Original Muskutings are Karen, Janice and I. Claude baptized us with that barkada name because the three of us were always together, inseperable. We ate lunch together, we joined the same organizations (Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Council of Student Organization), we sat in class together, we cheated together. We basically did almost everything together during the last few years in college.

So as not to hurt anyone's feelings, Rose May is also part of the group. She's actually the President of SME. I, on the other hand, am the Public Relations Officer. Janice and Karen are also officers. Claude is the salingpusa. Since we were already tagged as the Muskutings (from the name Musketeers meaning Three), the name stuck even though we became five in the group and grew more during the coming years.

And like the original Muskutings, the five of us ended up doing almost everything together. My college days would not be as much as fun and exciting if I haven't met these people. Even though I know that most of the fun and excitement came from my outrageous stories and adventures, I am thankful that I have found such good friends who are willing to patiently listen to me and my so-called heart breaks and heart aches which when I think about now actually makes me gag. I am thankful for all of your advice without being judgemental. For teaching me simple chinese words such as the numbers (it di sa si go lach chit pwe kao chap), the relations (atsi, ditsi, ahia, shoti, shobe), as well as other words which until now I can still remember. I have found the Chinese in me.

Also, since I forgot for the second year in a row to bring gifts for you guys, please accept this blog entry as a gift. Karen, I know sasabihin mo na naman na kuripot ako. But I have to tell you na malaki rin ang nagastos ko sa blog na ito. Dahil ginawa ko ito, napuyat ako (check out the time I posted this entry). Meaning, mas iitim ang dark circles around my eyes and mas magkakaroon ako ng eyebags. Isipin mo nalang kung magkano ang magagastos ko sa Belo Clinic para ipatanggal ang mga yan. =)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Muskutings!

Maligayang Pasko!

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Unfortunately, it will never snow here in the Philippines. It's actually freaking hot outside! My plan was to go to BF Homes and give my gifts to my pamangkins and inaanaks and then go to BF Ruins with Red to do some more Christmas shopping... but I changed my mind.

Yesterday, I went to World Trade Center and SM Bacoor with Jas to do some last-minute shopping. Jas, as usual, is ranting about her spending the holiday season with no one and she feels pathetic for spending another Christmas Eve with me, shopping. Actually, I can't remember shopping with her on a Christmas Eve but I do remember that we go to a lot of bazaars and tiangges during the holidays. Hhmm... Oh well. She plans on getting a really great guy, yung maginoo pero medyo bastos, by next year so she won't have to spend Valentine's all by her lonesome. Jas, don't worry. I'm here for you.

I got home from shopping at around 7PM with a really painful back and tired feet. Joyce, my cousin, asked me if I wanted to hear mass. Since it's Christmas Eve, I said yes even though I know for a fact that I'm going to hate every minute that I'll be spending inside the church. And I did. There's too many people. There are no more chairs to sit on. It's Christmas Eve and I'm not doing anything but bitch around. So after the 'Peace be with you' part, I told Joyce and Agnes that I'm not taking this crap anymore and I'm going home. I guess they wanted to go home also because they readily agreed.

So what do I have to say about Christmas? Nothing. I'm the new generation Ms. Scrooge. I hate Christmas. I hate the holidays. I hope that all of you are having a blast and enjoying every bit of the Christmas Season.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Away

Away
by The Cranberries

"Away"

Turn Away, Turn Away
From Me, From Me
And I pray, yes I pray
For thee, for thee, for thee-ee-ee

Another World
Wrapped up inside another place
And I hope, and I pray
That the pain goes away,
Yes I pray, Yes I pray, for thee-ee-e>
Turn Away, Turn Away
From Me, From Me
And I pray, yes I pray
For thee, for thee, for thee-ee-ee

Turn Away, Turn Away
From Me, From Me
And I pray, yes I pray
For thee, for thee, for thee.

---
I would like to thank LimeWire (shareware program) for my new mp3s. One of them is Away from The Cranberries. I don't know if this is included in the soundtrack of Clueless but this song was played in the movie.

Also got to download Sinta by Sugarfree and Suntok sa Buwan by Session Road (at last!).

----
May bago nga akong planner pero wala naman akong masulat (pa).

Ang dami ngang parties pero tinatamad akong pumunta. Sino naman ang gaganahan mag-attend ng Christmas parties kung tambak-tambak ang trabaho mo at... Leche! Put@ngin@ talaga ang araw na ito!

----
Makatulog na nga! Para naman mabawasan naman ng konti ang dark circles under my eyes. Bwiset!

After 21 Starbucks beverages...

...I finally got my Limited Edition 2005 Starbucks Planner!

Of course, I need to thank my friends who were kind enough to go to Starbucks with me and pay more than a P100 for fancy coffee when we know that we can drink coffee for free from the pantry of our offices.

I would like to thank the following (in no particular order):

1. Thea - for being so supportive. For giving me your Starbucks receipts so I may redeem the stickers. Thea has contributed a total of 3 stickers.

2. Don - for allowing me drag him to Starbucks even though I know he prefers Coffee Bean. Also, thanks to Don, we were able to kindly ask the Starbucks Barista to place the stickers over the Toffee Nut Latte drinks which no one seems to like. Kay Don, natutunan kong gamitin ang katagang, "Pakiusap". Don has contributed a total of 3 stickers.

3. Glenn - for loving Starbucks' Peppermint Mocha Frap as much as I do. Parang chocolate drink na may halong toothpaste. Yum yum! Glenn has contributed a total of 2 stickers and P5 tip to Starbucks Rockwell.

4. Jerard and Allan - for allowing me to drag you guys all the way from Badminton Arena in Mandaluyong to The Fort just so we can go to Starbucks. Jerard and Allan contributed one sticker each.

5. Jay - for drinking coffee with me at Starbucks even though I know you prefer Seattle's Best. Jay has contributed one sticker.

6. Trexyl - for finishing her dinner at record speed time at Grilla so we can have enough time to go to Rockwell Starbucks to chill and have coffee. Trexyl has contributed one sticker.

7. Pilipinas Shell - for the 3 drinks I bought during my weekend shift last month. Which reminds me, I need to have them reimbursed.

8. Red - for accompanying me to Starbucks earlier and allowing me to have a sip of his mocha frap because my toffee nut drink just tasted really awful! Thank you for not making fun of me when I got emotional a little teary-eyed when the barista handed me my Starbucks Planner and for helping me put the planner inside the plastic again because I am so paranoid that I, or you, might spill coffee all over my much-earned planner. Red has technically contributed no stickers because the coffee was my treat. Haha! Love you Hon! Thanks for dinner. Masuka-suka ako sa tempura.

Thank you everyone for all your support. The Starbucks Planner is not THAT great. It's not that fancy. Quoting from my Tita Ciel who wanted to give me a really fancy planner from England for Christmas, "Starbucks Planner lang ang gusto mo? Ang cheap ah!", yes it is quite cheap. I bet that by March 2005, Starbucks might give that planner for free. But it's not the planner itself that made it special, it's the people who helped me get the planner. The memories, the laugh trips and the nonsense discussion about anything under the sun which surrounded each Starbucks drinking session. Those moments are priceless and that makes MY Starbucks planner priceless as well.

---
It's already 1:17 AM and I'm still awake. Not a surprise. Ikaw ba naman eh mag-Starbucks sa gabi. Ewan ko nalang kung antukin ka kaagad.

What I have done so far

Going back to my To Do List, I am happy to announce that I am progressing... but very, very slowly.

1. Ethics Assignment finished and submitted. Dapat lang! It was due yesterday, I finished it last monday and I expect to get a 4.0!

2.Resume submitted. Next step, PRAY.

3. Fleet Manual On-Going. Status: 80% complete

4. Critique Paper? What critique paper?

5. Added another entry in our Saturday Night Blog so check it out: http://satniteout.blogspot.com
Talks about my adventure with my classmates last saturday.

6. Redeem Starbucks Planner. Status: 6 stickers to go! Thea is such an angel! She texted me that she might go to Starbucks tonight and she'll just give me the receipt so I can add one more sticker.

7. Call team mates for upcoming family day at Island Cove and persuade/plead/beg/threaten them to attend the family day and participate in the events such as chess, kayak, videoke, hula hoop, trivia game, etc. Status: 0% completion. I have no idea how I'm going to do this!

8. IT Workshop assignment. Status: 5% completion. It looks easy. I just need to create a simple website with basic information about me.

Gotta go and hopefully I'll finish Task 8 by tonight.

Welcome

"I am a poster girl with no poster. I am 32 flavors and then some..."

Who is Maan?

Very talkative, very frank to the point of being tactless. Major hyper active and super kulit. Tampuhin, selosa and madalas may topak. Psychotic but bearable most of the time. Pakialamera. Addicted to those excel quizzes and surveys forwarded through e-mail. Have learned how to say no to FREE FOOD and resist the temptation of buffets. Listens to The Morning Rush with Chico and Delamar and is a major fan of Sex and the City. Fiercely loyal to friends (especially the under dogs). Can't dance, can't sing, can't act but very OA (Outstanding Actress). Doesn't smoke, drink nor do drugs but definitely a great girl to hang out with (sagot ko na ang kwento). Cynical on the outside but a hopeless romantic deep inside. Tries not cry over a guy but will shed buckets of tears while watching a movie. Escapes from the real world by reading books, watching movies, and tv shows. Dreams of travelling the world someday and joining The Amazing Race with a friend who knows how to swim, ride a bike and drive a car.
